General Responsibilities:
Responsibility for providing
leadership in the planning, implementation and evaluation of innovative and
timely educational programs related to dairy and livestock production and
management and agronomy for identified clientele in

plans within the assigned areas of responsibility. Work effectively as a team member in program
efforts and organizational support.
Assist in representing the Association to the public, community leaders,
government officials, agricultural organizations and
Attend regular meetings of Cooperating government agencies and farm related organizations.
Direct program supervision is provided by the Agriculture and Natural Resources Issue Leader. Administrative Support is through the Executive Director.

Functions and Responsibilities %
of Time
A. Program Development 30%
· Identify local program needs with program committees, advisory groups, agribusiness and program participants.
· Plan the delivery of established short and long range educational programs within the areas of dairy and livestock production and management and agronomy.
· Develop educational strategies that maintain direct linkage with Cornell faculty. This may include conducting applied research in conjunction with faculty and developing written materials for publication.
· Develop and enhance relationships with appropriate agencies, organizations, industries and community leaders.
· Interpret Cornell and Association program direction; communicate recommendations to clientele and foster acceptance of innovative programs, delivery methods, and policies to address priority issues.
B. Program Implementation 40%
· Provide educational programs to producers and growers in the areas of dairy and livestock production and management and agronomy. Specific areas include animal health and nutrition, production management, weed and pest control, hay and pasture quality, soil fertility, nutrient management, crop harvesting, and storage and alternative cultural practices.
· Teach the importance and use of animal and crop records, integrated pest management and cost efficient crop rotation schedules.
· Serve as an educational resource to producer groups, governmental agencies, and agribusiness groups.
· Develop networks with Cornell faculty, regional specialists and colleagues to obtain specialized assistance in developing/delivering programs and materials.
· Work in conjunction with other staff and regional colleagues to present a “whole farm” approach to programs when appropriate.
· Implement state-wide programs such as IMP, TAG and Pro-Dairy on a local basis.
· Develop networks of volunteers and cooperators to extend program implementation efforts.
· Impact audiences through a variety of delivery methods including farm visits, meetings, workshops, demonstration projects, applied research projects and written and mass media efforts.
C. Program Evaluation and Management 20%
· Interact with program participants, program committee, advisory groups, Cornell faculty and specialists and County and community leaders to obtain their input and evaluation of program efforts.
· Prepare reports on program progress and accomplishments for local, state or federal use.
· Seek out, prepare and submit proposals within the appropriate discipline areas to secure additional funding, actively involving the Issue Leader, Executive Director, Program Committee, Board of Directors and other groups as needed.
· Analyze and evaluate programs and make recommendations to the Issue Leader for strengthening and enhancing programs.
· Assist to enhance the network of volunteers to extend the program.
· Assist Issue Leader in administrative and program management activities as assigned.
D. Professional Development and Improvement 10%
· Participate in required orientation programs.
· Attend in-services and professional conferences appropriate to the program responsibilities of the position.
· Jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan, in cooperation with the Issue Leader and Executive Director to increase competency in position responsibilities.
Reporting Relationships
· Reports to and receives supervision and guidance in program related matters from the Issue Team Leader
· Administratively responsible to the Executive Director.
· May supervisor program and/or clerical staff and may coordinate the activities of professional staff or volunteers.
· Develop and maintain a good working relationship and function as a resource to area farm groups, governmental agencies, agribusiness representatives and County officials.
Degree and Experience Requirements
· Masters degree from an accredited institution in agriculture with a major or emphasis in animal science, agronomy or education.
· Three years related experience in teaching, Extension or agribusiness preferred.

· Proven ability to initiate, plan, organize, coordinate, teach and evaluate informal educational programs.
· Proven ability to identify and involve appropriate people in determining program direction.
· Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
· Ability to relate to diverse audiences and to effectively utilize program resources within the community.
· Ability to effectively communicate through oral, written and visual channels. Proficient with electronic technology.
· Ability to identify and develop volunteer leadership.
Special Requirements
· Ability to meet the travel requirements of the position.
· Must possess or be able to obtain a Certified New York State Pesticide Application License.
· Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
