Position Title:             Agriculture Program Leader (Half Time)

Location:                    Erie County, East Aurora, NY

 

Position Summary:

Provides leadership for the commercial agriculture program area for Erie County CCE.  This position will develop and manage agricultural development efforts. Position activities could include:  assisting farmers with development concerns and opportunities; networking with various organizations, resource providers, and ag businesses to implement program goals; promoting a positive image of the ag industry; supporting farmland protection efforts; and providing technical assistance and educational opportunities.

 

·        Evaluates CCE programming needed to support agricultural businesses

·        Determine program priority recommendations

·        Identify activities and resources needed to support agricultural businesses

·        Assist with obtaining identified program resources

·        Manage and coordinate program activities and resources

·        Provide programming activities that carry out program recommendations

·        Periodically evaluate program effectiveness

 

 

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

 

Issue Area Leadership Program Development and Priority Setting (15%)

 

Determine program priorities by working with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Ag Program Committee and other stakeholders.  Create quality educational programs, identify activities and resources needed to carry out program priorities and goals.

 

Program Management and Coordination (25%)

 

Provide effective program management and coordination for the regional vegetable and other agricultural programs that provide services to county agri-businesses.  Assess the needs of the dairy industry and other agricultural sectors and develop appropriate programming.

 

Ensure equal employment and equal program opportunities (EEO & EPO) outreach to diverse audiences.

 

Subject Matter Resource and Program Delivery (40%)

 

Programming to support beginner and small farmers; educate elected and appointed officials, and the general public about the value and importance of agriculture; support farmland protection efforts; and respond to critical agricultural issues.  Provide technical assistance and training that encourages the growth of agribusinesses.

 

Research and Program Evaluation (10%)

 

Establish program goals and evaluate program effectiveness.  Recommend program changes to improve effectiveness.

 

Administrative Management (Finance, Budget) (5%)

 

Make recommendations regarding agriculture program budgetary needs to Executive Director and assist with the monitoring and review of program financial reports.  Effectively manage program budget allocations.  Manage any grant funded projects which may be developed.

 

Professional Improvement and other duties as assigned (5%)

 

Participate in campus based learning and other appropriate professional development opportunities.  Communicate with other county agricultural educators.

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. Masters degree in agriculture, natural resources or related area
  2. At least two years of extension work experience or its equivalent
  3. Working knowledge of agricultural practices
  4. Proven ability to use standard computer hardware and software
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  6. Proven track record of ability to produce high quality work results
