Collect information on pest problems and management methods
being utilized and changes adopted to be utilized in the Annual Report.
Coordinate the pest management program with staff in the various departments in
Subject Matter
Resource and Program Delivery (35%)
Serve as the community educator utilizing applied research based information on pest management for staff working in buildings and other county structural facilities. Provide useful and effective recommendations to meet the special needs of the program.
Research and
Program Evaluation (25%)
Provide applied demonstrations on county facilities including office buildings, storage areas, and other structural facilities to show effective alternatives to the pesticides being phased out.
Administrative
Management (Finance, Budget) (10%)
Work with the Community Advisory Committee to identify priorities and resources needed in the program and develop methods of information delivery. Monitor expenses and seek funding through grants in support of program expansion as need develops.
Ensure program outreach to diverse audiences, ensuring all searches reach out and include a diverse pool. Appreciate and embrace diversity in all interactions with clientele, staff, volunteers and the public

In cooperation with supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means of increasing competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address change in programming and Association priorities.
Contacts (level of interaction
and outcomes)
Attend and actively participate in Community Advisory Committee meetings and the Agricultural Program Advisory Committee. Coordinate programs with all stakeholders in Suffolk County Departments, and Cornell pest management staff to stay abreast and ascertain changes and needs relevant to association program. Actively represent the association on statewide Program Work Teams to ensure connections that will enable increased capabilities to address local and regional efforts and priorities. Represent the association to funding agencies and grant sources to negotiate and develop new sources of revenue and opportunities to meet program priority and clientele needs. Interact directly with, and seek the resource expertise of, faculty and other subject matter experts to address identified needs and to address complex issues.
Reporting Relationships and Type
of Supervision Received/Given
This position is accountable to and under the direct supervision of the Extension Issue Leader - Agriculture, seeking input from the supervisor in non-routine or complex subject matter situations. As a subject matter expert, independently identify clientele and select appropriate subject matter relative to analyzed needs, alerting supervisor of issues and concerns as well as actual or potential areas of risk or conflict. Responsible for coaching, goal setting and providing subject matter and supervisory support to non-exempt educators, making hiring recommendations and addressing performance development issues.
Degree and Experience
Pre-requisites
Masters Degree required in pest management or related sciences (entomology, and vertebrate pest management) with an emphasis on structural pest management preferred.
Desirable:
One or more years experience in conducting educational programs for adults is desirable. Experience with integrated pest management for structural pests.
Necessary: Excellent oral and written
communication skills and ability to handle multiple priorities. Ability to work independently; and prioritize tasks with a minimum
of supervision. Willingness to meet the travel demands of the position
and flexibility to work other than normal work hours (early morning or evening)
as required. Ability to use computers in communications, data access and
information analysis is essential. Willingness to obtain a
