Nutrition and Wellness Resource Educator

Location:
General Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing leadership in planning, implementing, managing
and evaluating the county-wide nutrition and wellness programming. Specific areas of
responsibility include the following:

Supervise team members, including Nutrition Program Educators, and
program assistants, including staff at the Phoenix Kids Café.
·
Provide guidance for the FSNEP grant and prepare other proposals, while
working closely
with the Executive Director and Financial Assistant in providing fiscal
oversight.
·
Participate in the association-wide and the FSNEP Plan of Work
development process, developing program objectives and implementation plans for
the whole community nutrition and wellness program.
·
Provide clinical dietetic support for clients referred by the Tioga
County Health Department.
·
Act as a local resource for food and nutrition related questions,
providing accurate and appropriate information from accredited institutions,
programs, and/or associations.
·
Represent the association positively to the public, community leaders,
government officials and
·
Work as a team member in addressing local, regional, and statewide
nutrition programming priorities, operating as a multi-association team member.
Program Development and
Implementation: 25%
·
Identify program needs through supervisor, program committee, advisory
committees, program participants, and Cornell program units and collaboration
with community agencies and organizations.
·
Plan short- and long-range educational programs in food and nutrition.
·
Maintain and work closely with the FSNEP and other advisory committees.
·
Participate in system-wide program development efforts, work with
Cornell Faculty, and draw upon Cornell and Cooperative Extension System program
resources in order to address identified clientele needs and to select program
materials.
·
Ensure that educational programs conform to association and Cornell
Cooperative Extension objectives and mission and consider the diversity of the
community.
·
Develop and conduct educational programs utilizing a variety of
delivery methods.
·
Act as a subject-matter resource to the program committee, staff, and
clientele, including schools, agencies and other groups as they are identified.
·
Prepare and support the development and compilation of educational
materials such as training aids, exhibits, and demonstration projects. Develop relationship with Cornell faculty and
specialists to develop innovative program and resource materials.
·
Develop and enhance networks of volunteers to extend program
implementation efforts to achieve local community ownership
Program Management: 35%
·
Compile and prepare written reports as required by local association,
Cornell Cooperative Extension statewide, funders and other partners.
·
Recruit, train and manage staff for programs under direct supervision.
·
Support the professional development of staff under direct supervision.
·
Recruit, train and manage volunteer staff and provide leadership
development opportunities.
·
Following association guidelines, seek out, prepare and submit
proposals to secure additional program funding, actively involving Executive
Director, program committee, Board of Directors, Cornell faculty, and Extension
Administration.
Community Nutritionist: 20%
Program Evaluation: 15%
·
Identify and implement appropriate program evaluation strategies.
·
Involve program participants, association committees, Cornell faculty,
and county and community leaders in evaluation of programs as appropriate.
·
Make recommendations to Executive Director, program committee and
advisory committees for strengthening and improving programs based on program
evaluation results.
·
Report program evaluation results to funders as required.
Professional Improvement:
10%
·
Attend in service education as appropriate to program and management
responsibilities to maintain program excellence.
·
Participate in professional organizations.
·
Develop and pursue a professional improvement plan in cooperation with
Executive Director to increase competency in position responsibilities.
Reporting Relationships:
·
Report to and receive supervision and guidance from the Executive
Director.
·
Supervise the work of other staff and volunteers within assigned
program responsibilities.
Degree and Experience
Requirements:
·
Master’s degree in nutrition or related field.
·
Registered dietitian. Must be registered or eligible for registration
as nutritionist/Dietitian by the American Dietetic Association and maintain
qualifications consistent with current and future changes to NYS Sanitary Code
chapter 1, part 11.131 and title 10 chapters 5 part 700.2 of NYS Codes, Rules,
and Regulations. Qualify for and attain NYS Dept. of Education Certificate as
Dietitian Nutritionist.

At least two years of experience in community nutrition and in
supervision of a diverse staff, preferred

Work Site: Office:
Work
within the community to establish working relationships with agencies,
organizations, and individuals associated with food, the food system,
nutrition, and health. Some travel required for training, workshops, and home
visits. Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the
job.
Hours: full-time
exempt; some weekends and evenings required for meetings and program
implementation.
