POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

1.  Working Title:          Nutrition Resource Educator

2.  Classification:           Resource Educator

3.  Position:                  Full Time

4.  Supervision:             Will provide supervision of Program Educator staff, and will be supervised by the Executive Director

 

5.      Brief Summary of Position:

Responsible for fulfilling Eat Smart New York (ESNY) educational program needs.  Work with the agriculture and 4-H/youth development educators in community nutrition education.  Grant proposal and budget preparation.  Will also work with the Long Term Health Care Insurance Education Program as contracted through Seneca County Office for the Aging.


Time will be broken down as follows:

85% - ESNY/FSNEP (Food Stamp Nutrition Program) Program

15% - All other nutrition/consumer education programming

 

6.      Regular Duties of Position:

  • Work independently with ESNY participants. Teach these participants individually and in small group.
  • Maintain ESNY program records and reports as required for program accountability and local association documentation.
  • Recruit individuals/families into ESNY program’s through collaboration with agencies, which serve the Food Stamp eligible population.
  • Work with Seneca County residents with the Long Term Health Care Insurance Education Program.
  • Assure equal program opportunity requirements are met.
  • Supervise one Human Ecology Program Assistant.
  • Manage time and schedules in accordance with association policies.  Complete ESNY time management documentation.
  • Work with adults and youth from ESNY program families to improve their diets and food behaviors and food resource management.
  • Work with the Agriculture Education Program and the 4-H Youth Development Program in community nutrition.
  • Assure good marketing strategies are used in the planning and promotion of programs
  • Grant proposal and budget preparation
  • Regularly communicate impacts of programs.
  • Responsible for developing/organizing/evaluating Human Ecology Programs, recruiting workshop instructors for related workshops and other events/programs with guidance from Executive Director.

 

7.      Professional Development

·        Participate in required orientation programs

·        Attend in-services related to program and responsibilities. Participate in ESNY competency training to acquire and improve skills.

 

8.        Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·          Ability to relate to and work with individuals of various ages, incomes, educational levels, and ethnic backgrounds.

·          Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

·          Knowledge and skills of home economics related subject areas i.e.: foods and nutrition, food safety and preservation, and food resource management

·          Ability to gain knowledge of subject matter as it relates to programs, events and activities.

·          Ability to work independently; to organize priorities, to manage job responsibilities and keep accurate records.

·          Ability to market Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension adult and youth programs.

·          Ability to plan, initiate, organize, and evaluate programs and events activities for adults and youth.

·          Ability to effectively participate in program team efforts.

·          Have basic computer skills, including word processing and Power Point.

 

  1. Education and Experience Requirements:

Masters degree in nutrition or related field. Experiences in home economics, community nutrition, nutrition education, or human services and working with both adults and youth in an informal educational program are desirable.

 

  1. Special Requirements:

·        Have ability to meet travel requirements of the position

·        Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekend and evening commitments.

·        Adhere to the Staff Skills for Success behavioral standards.
