Primary Role and Accountability

 

Cornell Cooperative Extension Genesee County (Batavia, NY) is searching for a full time Nutrition and Family Consumer Science Team Coordinator.  Responsible for providing leadership in the coordination and implementation of the extension association’s Nutrition and Family and Consumer Science program areas.  Supervise team of staff to effect quality programming in nutrition and health programs including the Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program.  Responsible for developing educational programs in line with association priorities that relate to nutrition and family and consumer sciences and for seeking out grant monies to support and expand program efforts.  Draw upon research base in consultation with the Executive Director/Cornell program staff, Cooperative Extension program work teams and Western Region Food and Nutrition Education in Communities team.   Responsible for leading direct program delivery and community education, including marketing.  Participate as an active member of the association leadership and program team in developing a well-integrated overall association educational effort. 

 

Nutrition and Family and Consumer Science Program Design and Management   35%

 

  • Provide overall coordination of Nutrition and Family and Consumer Science Program, including identification of local needs and research participation and application in keeping with local priorities.

 

  • Design, coordinate and manage both short and long range program planning, implementation and evaluation of program outcomes and impacts in Nutrition and Family and Consumer Sciences. 

 

  • Interpret Cornell Cooperative Extension program direction to Board of Directors  and provide for ongoing interaction with Cornell faculty and administration.

 

  • Provide leadership to support a system of ongoing involvement of citizens in the program development process, reflecting demographics of the community.

 

  • Promote program planning and team efforts with other association program areas and participate in multidisciplinary, multi-association, regional, and statewide program development to address shared priority issues. 

 

  • Organize, coordinate and direct the work of nutrition teaching assistants and support staff in implementing educational activities related to Nutrition and Consumer Science Program priorities.

 

 Program Implementation                                                                                         20%

 

  • Provide specialized program delivery and community education through the identification of adult and youth educational program opportunities in the Nutrition and Family and Consumer Science Program. 

 

  • Serve as an educational resource in Nutrition and Family and Consumer Science to staff, volunteers and community members.

 

  • Network and collaborate with community public and private groups to plan programming.

  

  • Use creative delivery strategy appropriate for target audience.  

 

 

Administrative Management Accountabilities                                                           20%

 

  • Provide effective leadership and management of personnel assigned to the Nutrition and Family and Consumer Science program.  Lead processes to solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the operation of the program unit, utilizing policies and procedures.

 

  • Seek out, prepare and submit proposals to secure additional funding for program.

 

  • Represent the association before the public, community leaders, government officials, and Cornell University in conjunction with program and leadership responsibilities.

 

 

Program Evaluation                                                                                                   10%

 

  • Work with Executive Director to develop evaluation tools and methods.  Utilize ERS for nutrition program evaluation.

 

  • Communicate to stakeholders, volunteers and Executive Director, and provide written reports on work plans, outcomes, impacts and accomplishments for self, volunteers and staff.

 

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Cornell faculty and administration, appropriate County departments, elected officials, local community leaders and organizations, keeping these individuals and groups informed of Extension’s goals, efforts and impacts and provide for interaction and input of county needs with Cornell faculty, and administration.
  • Assure that accountability and affirmative action are met within the Nutrition and Family and Consumer Science Program area.

 

             

Professional Improvement                                                                                              10%

 

  • Participate in orientation, in-service education and professional opportunities to remain current in leadership and subject matter responsibilities.

 

  • Jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan in cooperation with Executive Director to increase competency in position responsibilities.

 

General CCE – Genesee County                                                                                     5%

 

Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension Genesee County.  These activities include attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with the Executive Director and other staff in budget preparation, general marketing of CCE Genesee County, and other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

 

Master’s degree plus two years experience required and Registered Dietitian credential is preferred.  Appropriate subject matter specialization is required with focus in one of the following areas:  nutrition, child/human development, family & consumer sciences or human services.  Teaching experience and grant writing is necessary.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills using innovative applications of electronic technology (e.g. computers, video, etc.)

 

  • Must have access to transportation adequate to fulfill position responsibility.

 

  • Ability to meet flexible scheduling requirements.
