Job Title:                    Association Nutrition Resource Educator (0.6 FTE)

 

Location:                    Cornell Cooperative Extension, Schuyler County, Montour Falls, NY

 

General Responsibilities

 

This position provides leadership for the development, marketing, delivery and evaluation of the Nutrition Education and Food Safety Education programs in Schuyler County, including the supervision of staff and management of resources.  

 

The position is part of the association’s management team.  Participation in system-wide initiatives and applied research projects is expected.

 

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

 

Issue Area Leadership Program Development and Priority Setting (20%)

 

Provide program leadership in the areas of nutrition education and food safety education within Schuyler County. Assess needs, set priorities, identify audiences, plan, market, implement and evaluate program efforts and report program impacts.  Support and utilize advisory committees as appropriate.  Collaborate with other extension educators in joint program efforts.  

 

Program Management and Coordination (30%)

. 

  1. Plan, implement and manage the Food Stamp Nutrition Education (FSNE) to reach low-income families and youth. Ensure that county, state and federal FSNEP grant requirements are met.  

 

  1. Supervise an administrative assistant and 1 - 2 FTE Nutrition Teaching Assistants who work with families in their homes and in groups. May supervise a nutrition intern and provide direction to volunteers as needed
  2. Serve as part of the management team for the regional CCE Finger Lakes Nutrition Education Program.
  3. May serve on relevant statewide Program Work Team.
  4. Work closely with other association program areas, especially parenting education, family financial management and youth development and in multi-county efforts as a part of statewide and national Cooperative Extension initiatives.
  5. Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, human service agencies (Head Start, Catholic Charities, food pantries, OFA and DSS/food stamps) business, community leaders, government officials and Cornell University.  Collaborate on county-wide and multi-agency educational efforts.

 

Subject Matter Resource and Program Delivery (25%)

 

Plan, deliver and evaluate educational programs in current nutrition issues such as the prevention of childhood obesity and chronic disease and in food safety including food preservation.

 

Serve as a nutrition consultant to Schuyler Head Start including approval of menus and in-service education for staff and parents.

 

Research and Program Evaluation (5%)

 

Participate fully in the statewide ESNY evaluation program and the CCE Annual reporting system which are both administered at Cornell. Work with staff to provide local impact data to funders and stakeholders.

 

Administrative Management (Finance, Budget) (15%)

 

Manage the FSNE budget in coordination with the Executive Director.  Seek and administer external funding to support educational programs and assure that reporting requirements are met.  Assure that accountability and affirmative action requirements are met within the program.

 

Professional Improvement and other duties as assigned (5%)

 

Maintain a current knowledge of research findings and projects, policies, practices, program delivery strategies and principles in appropriate issue areas.  Participate in Cornell University and other related in-services.  Maintain certification in relevant professional organizations.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Master’s Degree plus related experience required.  Two years of experience in nutritional sciences or related health field preferred.  Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, organize, market, implement, teach, and evaluate non-formal educational programs for diverse audiences.  Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and work effectively with individuals, teams, and institutional partners and volunteers.  Analytical and electronic skills commensurate with the duties of the position.  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional tools as well as electronic technology.        

 

Coursework in education and management experience highly preferred.  Registered Dietitian (RD) or certified dietitian-nutritionist (CDN) preferred.  Knowledge of applied research principles, methods and applications.
