What is Opening Doors? Opening Doors is a highly valued, time-tested workshop model for creating a climate for constructive change on diversity for individuals and organizations. For more than 15-years over 1500 participants have experienced the Opening Doors three-day retreat. It utilizes a holistic approach, focusing on both participants’ cognitive and affective growth.

Diversity Project Mission The Diversity Project’s mission is to provide quality leadership, technical assistance, training, and education that foster the creation of inclusive environments that support all dimensions of diversity.  The partnership model used is distinguished by its vision, research base, and by the safe and expansive learning opportunities it affords.

Retreat Schedule Opening Doors begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and concludes at 3 p.m. on Friday.  Participants are expected to attend for the full three days. Call Betty García Mathewson - 585-395-5138 if you have any questions about this requirement.

Facilitators

Kathy Castania Kathy Castania is a Lead Facilitator in the Opening Doors Diversity Project and President of Castania Associates. She is the former Project Director and co-founder of the national Change Agent States for Diversity (CASD) project as part of the Cooperative Extension system. She retired from Cornell University after 23 years as a Senior Extension Associate with the Cornell Migrant Program in the Department of Human Development. Ms.Castania has facilitated diversity workshops at both the National and State levels.  She is the author of a series of articles on diversity and published a “training of trainers” curriculum for Opening Doors workshops in 2003.  She has been training apprentices in the facilitation of this model for 10 years and is currently implementing the curriculum with a team of new facilitators at North Carolina State University.  For 12 years she served as the Multicultural Education Coordinator for NYS Migrant Education Program and has 16 years of experience in community development. Ms. Castania holds a Bachelor’s in Education and a Master’s in Intercultural Relations from Lesley University.

Eduardo González, Jr. Eduardo González, Jr. is a Lead Facilitator in the Opening Doors Diversity Project. Eduardo also provides statewide leadership to Cornell Cooperative Extension as a Diversity Specialist. In this capacity, a key area of focus for Mr. González is assisting staff, managers, administrators and their respective organizations in developing the awareness and skills needed to support and/or provide leadership in organizational change efforts on diversity. He is also Youth Development Specialist with the Family and Youth Development program at Cornell University Cooperative Extension-New York City. His experience and expertise in the field of youth development and education spans over 14 years with diverse adult and youth audiences. His work as a youth professional has been focused on working in partnership with youth to develop the skills, competencies and personal attributes to become empowered citizens-in-the-present. Eduardo holds a Bachelor's in Human Services and a Masters in Public Administration from Pace University. He completed certification as a diversity professional in 2004 through the Diversity Management Certification program at Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations Extension Program in New York City.

Costs The program cost for this workshop, $325 per participant, is being fully covered by CCE Extension Administration. Participants are expected to cover the cost of lodging and meals at the Warwick Center as follows: $165 Double Occupancy, and $149 Triple Occupancy. This includes three lunches, two dinners and two breakfasts.
