FY06 Program Work Team Special Needs Support

The active PWTs below requested additional “special needs” support of $1000 from CCE. Their submitted proposals (see summaries below) were reviewed and approved for funding.

4-H Youth/Science & Technology To support 4 teams from (Chemung, Niagara, Saratoga and Wayne counties) with up to $250 in resource materials to carry out county or regional trainings stemming from their attendance at the North East Regional Science, Technology & Engineering Forum in the fall of 2005.

Integrated Nutrient Management To maintain the team as the primary clearinghouse for dairy nutrient management communication on the Cornell campus. Will support proceedings printing, CD and video-conference charges, and reimbursements for international and out-of-state visitors/speakers.

Community Horticulture To hold a one-day conference at Cornell on developing key volunteers in community horticulture programs. It will focus on increasing CCE educators understanding of the benefits of expanding the roles of volunteers, as well as how to approach creating and implementing a county needs-based volunteer system using key Master Gardener Volunteers.

Ag Community Economic Development To cover partial expenses for a two-and-one-half day workshop/training program entitled “NYS Agriculture and Food Based Community and Economic Development: Resources, Activities and Opportunities.”

Ag Marketing & Business Management To develop/deliver professional development training for extension educators, specifically the Annual Strategic Marketing In-Service training in 2006.

Youth Community Action To develop and apply an evaluation tool that will inventory and assess existing youth community action efforts statewide.

Family Economics and Resource Management To provide professional development in-service opportunities for CCE educators programming in the areas of family financial management and emerging consumer financial issues. The in-service may be held as a preconference to ACCEE in May 2006, or at other convenient times.

Community and Economic Renewal To carry out follow-up activities relating to the Main Street research survey conducted in 2005, including convening the PWT via video/phone conferences.

Soil Health To partially support the production of an illustrated color manual on soil health to be used as a background and training resource on soil health issues.

Greenhouse Horticulture To determine PWT annual activities, arrange 2005 research results dissemination, and plan, with stakeholders, the August 8, 2006 Cornell Floriculture Conference and Field Day.

Organic Production & Marketing To host four videoconferences that will highlight and enhance PWT activities and collect additional grower evaluations of Cornell organic efforts.

Small Farms To host a statewide Small Farms Conference (March 30 videoconference) highlighting PWT accomplishments and future plans for stakeholders, NYSDAM representatives, USDA and other agency officials. The funds will also support interaction with two farmer focus groups (NNY, LI) to determine additional SF research and extension needs and pressing issues.

Family and Community Food Decision-Making To convene a conference/workshop that will help the Team introduce the FCFDM "toolkit" to educators, and to engage them in potential shaping of additional future tools.

Fruit To partially support production of a bulletin on an Integrated Fruit Production Protocol which will allow export of NY apples to Europe.

Vegetable Crops To partially underwrite speaker and workshop expenses associated with the 2006 Becker Forum, preceding the Empire State Fruit & Vegetable Expo.

Community Forestry To convene a face-to-face (in lieu of the regular teleconferenced) meeting of the team to strategize about future goals and program efforts, and to also partially support a train the trainer workshop in June 2006.
